Day Museum - A music video and narrative film project out of Portland OR
My name is Kevin Bailey and Day Museum is my passion project. it's a place to find and watch original work that is created for the sake of art and expression.
I have been telling stories through film for nearly two decades. I began my filmmaking journey as an enthusiastic twelve year old with a cheap Hi8 camcorder I bought off a neighbor. I filmed hundreds of shorts over the years using my siblings and neighbors as actors in my comedy skits. In my twenties I spent time as a commercial videographer for hire, although I enjoyed it and learned a lot, I quickly realized that it wasn’t a long term career that I wanted. I refocused my energy and efforts on creative filmmaking. Today I work with bands to make music videos, I write and direct my own films and I support other filmmakers as a crew member usually working as a gaffer or Director of Photography.
As a music video director, I love collaborating with bands to make unique and engaging visuals that match the artists own unique and creative songs. When constructing a music video I focus on three main things. Capturing the mood of the song, capturing the bands personality and making sure that the video can stand on its own. I want to help musicians reach more people and connect with their fans in new ways.
As a narrative film director my goal is to make videos that are entertaining and thought provoking. There’s a whole lot of media out in world and a whole lot of stories, I focus on my own unique voice and life experiences to guide my filmmaking process.
My work is very personal but also collaborative, I get tons of help and draw a lot of inspiration from the friends, artists and creators I surround myself with, usually focusing on stories that fill a niche in the modern film or music video industry. I have a wonderful group of people that consistently work on Day Museum originals and I am very grateful for the wonderful material they consistently put out.
I’m always excited for new projects. Reach out to me at daymuseumfilm@gmail.com to write/direct your next music video or to work with your crew!
